about somayoga michigan
a space for lived practice
somayoga michigan is a practice space rooted in presence, choice, and care.
This studio was created for those seeking depth over intensity — a place where movement, breath, and stillness are woven together as practices meant to be lived, not perfected.
We offer yoga and meditation as steady companions through daily life, honoring both tradition and the realities of modern living.
about the founder
I’m Robin Bushre, founder of somayoga michigan. My path with yoga has evolved over the past 20 years, shaped by seasons of study, travel, family life, and change. Over time, I’ve found myself drawn away from high-intensity environments and toward quieter spaces that regulate the nervous system and support inner work. Yoga continues to be a reliable and trustworthy friend, offering a safe and steady home to rest, to move, and to experience the peace that is possible within a relationship to self.
I created somayoga to be a space for others to experience their own steady home. It is a place for intentional practice and commitment — somewhere to return to again and again. It is envisioned as a space of peace where students both local and from beyond can gather to practice, to restore, and to learn from teachers who have walked the path and carry wisdom to share.
My teaching is informed by classical yoga, yogic philosophy, modern science, and meditation, with a strong emphasis on intuition, pacing, and embodied awareness.
Robin completed her first 200-hr YTT in Rishikesh, India in 2014, with a focus on Ashtanga Yoga. She has trained in meditation through Vipassana, Shamatha, and Vedic traditions. Her continued education includes advanced studies in Reiki, Ayurveda, Yin Yoga, Yoga Nidra / iRest, Aerial Yoga, 26-pose Hot Yoga, Somatic practices, and Osho-lineage group work. She is currently enrolled in a 500-hr YTT, learning from living teachers, classical texts, and embodied experience as part of her lifelong relationship with yoga. She also has a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University, has written for international publications, and is an award-winning artist, mother of three, and partner to her childhood love.
